While many of us already have access to mobile phones with which to dial emergency numbers such as 911, the unfortunate truth is that in a real emergency situation this simply is not realistic. An attacker is not likely to stop and give you enough time to call into an emergency number, wait on hold, and then describe your exact location, what is happening and wait on the line for a responder.
