Showcase

College life is an exciting time for many of us, filled with new experiences and opportunities for growth. Most campuses operate as their own tiny communities with not only places to study but also places to live, eat and socialize. However just like any other community, crime can also an unfortunate presence. Night classes, enclosed walkways and even the typical college nightlife all provide a measure of risk to student safety. This is why On Demand Safety Inc. is working with college campuses around the nation to provide a SafeHaven Campus solution.

Many people are unaware of the facts when it comes to crime and safety in America. The truth is that crime happens, often times more than we ever realize. The following are some facts and statistics collected from various national crime database resources including the FBI and Department of Justice. Keep in mind that these numbers ONLY take into account college campuses and their students:

o About 3% of coeds are raped during each academic year. Over the course of 5 calendar years, including summers and vacations, 20-25% may be raped.

o Nationally, an additional 15.5% of college females are sexually victimized (e.g., sexual contact is completed with force or threat of non-physical force, threat of rape, or threat of contact).

o Nationally, 13.1% of coeds are stalked an average of 60 days during an academic year.

o Nationally, less than 5% of completed and attempted rapes of college females are reported to the police or campus officials. About 67% of the victims tell a friend.

o Nine out of 10 victims knew their assailant. {Note: Almost all sexual assaults on college campuses are acquaintance rapes and, in most cases, at least one of the persons involved is under the influence of alcohol or another drug.}

o Between 3 and 6% of male university students reported being raped and up to 25% reported being sexually assaulted. Only about 1% of male rape victims reported it to the police.

o Nationally 27% of college students report being the victim of a robbery.

o Nationally 16% of college students are the victims of aggravated assault

o 37.2% of coed student travelers are the victim of crime. Of those that are victims of crime, 61% of the cases are categorized as violent or aggravated crime.

The SafeHaven system allows students to take direct ownership of their campus safety. By empowering students across campuses with the ability to get help for not only themselves, but others as well, with just the push of a button we are putting students into a position to directly affect their security and quality of life. Combined with the SafeHaven Campus solution this works to provide not just a safer campus, but a safer college community and neighborhood as a whole.

I carry mace. I don't like to go out at night on my own. Just to have Halo within reach would make me feel safer.
